Jasminum sambac is a species of Jasmine native to India. It is a small shrub growing 0.5-3m in height. The flowers bloom throughout the year and are produced in clusters of 3-12 at the end of branches. They are strongly scented, with a white corolla 2-3 cm in diameter with 5-9 lobes. The fruit is a purple/black berry 1 cm in diameter.
Jasmine flowers are popularly used to flavour teas and in the making of perfumes. It is a good houseplant as it grows well both in sun and semi-shade.
This plant is the national flower of the Philippines where it is known as Sampaguita.
